Bottom line Meta open the door to mature VR content

Meta make changes to their policies

Horizon Worlds is Metas first true metaverse experiment that the public has access to. One of the issues in the metaverse is that minors can accidently or easily access content not meant for their age. Therefore Meta has introduced a 18 and up tag for some user created worlds. However, creators must manually mark if the content is fitting for children.

After sexual-asault issues in the past months on Meta’s metaverse experience, pressure builde up for these kind of changed to be done. These changes have opened the restrictions in their metaverse. On the other hand, restrictions still exist. Remarks about illegal drugs, nudity, violence, depictions of people in explicit positions or content or worlds that are sexually provocative or implied are not allowed. Bottom line Meta open the door to mature VR content.

All metaverse projects are working on being as open as possible

All metaverse projects are working on being as open as possible yet there is a need to moderate content. Some parts of the metaverse need to be restricted to minors. Likewise as in the real world.

Meanwhile metaverse projects are trying to become more mainstream and child friendly. Similarly as with the adoption of the smartphone VR will be one of the easiest entry points for the metaverse. For example, we see this with Multiverse‘s recent addition of LeBron James and cartoon characters Rick and Morty.

Mainstream Metaverse experience

The more mainstream the metaverse becomes the more it will have to be moderated. By doing so this will let the Metaverse communities thrive in their best ways. To sum up, metas changes in their policies could lay the groundwork for interaction in the metaverse.
